At the top of the large rapid into slide , great rapid on the North Fork of the Crystal. Hard to get to for the rapids, but beautiful and well worth it if it isn't your car. Sad but true unless you are one of the rare or trust fund kayakers who has multiple 4x4s and or a big thin one, in that case might be fine. OR if you are from Colorado and this is your backyard, but not when on a road trip for multiple months in which you need your vehicle for living etc. Sprayer(photo Sprayer by Douglas Vail photographer pro kayaker).

Yule's Wall Check /Wills wall check please

Will Pruett broke his hefe on this waterslide straight into rock wall. The move is to try to grind the wall but it is not a easy as it seems. There has been a broken back, Will should have broken his ankles but was not his fate. Yule creeks Wall Check is all it is cracked up to be, the entrance is a 30 footer. At some lower levels there is a rock jutting out on the left that i hurt my back on. The rock is about midway down. Wall Check being one small boil filled pool down , it is a hairing combo of rapids.Spayer(photo Will Pruett by Sprayer)

Black Canyon Waterfall

The standard shot of the waterfall before the portage. It is a great rapid to recognize the portages. There is one long portage up high through poison ivy trees. OR the adventure charger can take a few more rapids then bolder(with some gear) over the unrunnable rapids. You might be the kayaker with gills but really hard to run a few of these. Looking at the great painted wall old Sprayer is ready to start the portage. On the back end of the portage a couple 25 footer sunshine like rapids are waiting for the charge.

Black Canyon is great late summer colorado run. Lots of class five , you can get as dirty as you want. Respect this river due it taking the life of the late Kern brother. Lots can be run but portage high if you are not sure. Poison Ivy is the key element one must worry about. Even after wearing a painters suit in 89 degree temps. I still ended up with poison ivy even though i am not very allergic to it. If you are allergic maybe you shouldn't run this one. Or if you like running 30 footers into cave like rocks maybe you dont have to portage. JC Sprayer and company give it a great adventure rating of class five. Great fishing and camping on the legendary beach.Love to see you there although with my new knee injury might not be going here this year.
